Basic Training for Newly Adopted Dogs
Volunteer Dog Training recognizes that adopting a rescue dog is a unique experience with its’ own set of joys and challenges. We want to help adopters through those moments with positive, science based training methods.
We have created a private, in home, Basic Training course that takes into account the Rule of 3: 3 days to relax, 3 weeks to learn the routine, 3 months to feel at home. We address these stages via first focusing on the relationship between he dog and its new family, followed by learning basic cues, and capped off with learning how to feel comfortable out in the world. Because the class is 1 on 1 we have the ability to address each dog’s specific needs, thus creating a truly custom experience for the dog and adopter.

Basic Training 2 Reactive Dog
This class is designed for dogs who know the basic cues, but are not reliable when in the presence of other dogs, other animals and or people. You and your dog will learn how to build strong cue reliability and new behaviors to help your dog become more reliable when in the presence of dogs, animals and or people. The training includes using Engage/Disengage as well positive conditioned emotional response training. Many reactive dogs also benefit from Muzzle Training, which can be added to this class.
The Engage - Disengage
A training game for dogs who are reactive to triggers such as people, other dogs, sounds, or objects. The goal is to decrease their anxiety by making positive associations and then provide them with a new behavior that is safe and appropriate.
Muzzle Training
The goal for muzzle training is for your dog to enjoy wearing a muzzle outside, in the home, or at the vet. Your dog should exhibit happy body language when he sees and wears the muzzle. In technical terms, we call this a positive conditioned emotional response (+CER).
